Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
